Background
Having lived in both the United Kingdom and the Netherlands as part of an expat family (English/Irish/Dutch) within an international community, I have developed a deep appreciation for cultural diversity and an understanding of cross cultural perspectives, including the challenges faced by expats. These experiences have shaped an open minded and adaptable outlook that continues to inspire me personally and professionally.
Approach and Professional Experience
With over 15 years of experience working in the field of psychology, I have worked across a range of psychological services and departments, supporting individuals from diverse backgrounds, including international clients, expats, and refugees. My work has been grounded in extensive training and experience in trauma, personality disorders, depression, anxiety, somatic complaints, acculturation difficulties, ADHD and stress/burnout related problems.
I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. My practice is client-centred and collaborative. Together, we determine the most appropriate path forward. Treatment is often integrative and may include cognitive behavioural therapy, schema therapy, EMDR, and experiential techniques such as imagery rescripting and chair work. In addition to Therapy Now, I work at PsyQ in Leiden, where I treat clients both individually and in groups, and I am currently completing further specialisation in psychotherapy at the RINO Group in Utrecht.
I treat clients over the age of 18 and offer treatment in Dutch and English.
Starting treatment
Before beginning treatment, we will schedule a 15 minute phone consultation to discuss your concerns and explore suitable treatment options. If you decide to proceed, you can obtain a referral letter from your GP. This can be sent to me either by you or directly by your GP, after which we can arrange your first appointment.
The first session is a 60 minute intake appointment. During this session, we will discuss your background, current difficulties and treatment goals. I will also explain the treatment approach we will be using. In some cases, additional diagnostic assessment may be required to determine the most appropriate treatment for your symptoms. If needed, this will be scheduled after the intake session.
We will regularly evaluate your progress throughout treatment. Once your treatment goals have been achieved, we will focus on relapse prevention and carefully prepare for the conclusion of therapy.
Contracts and reimbursement
I have contracts with DSW (which includes InTwente, StadHolland, SZVK), Zilveren Kruis (which includes De Friesland, FBTO and Interpolis), and CZ (which includes Nationale Nederlanden, OHRA and Politie Zorgpolis), which means sessions are fully reimbursed for clients insured with these providers. If you are insured with a different health insurer, a varying percentage of the treatment costs are reimbursed, depending on your specific policy and coverage for non-contracted care.
I follow the official rates set by the Dutch Healthcare Authority (NZa). In 2025, the rate for a 45-minute treatment session is €142.29, and for a 60-minute session, €168.94. An intake session or diagnostic assessment (typically 60 minutes) costs €190.88. These fees include indirect time spent on preparation, administration, and reporting, and are exempt from VAT.
Billing is done monthly under the Dutch Zorgprestatiemodel for contracted care and once per three months for uncontracted care.
